Guide to being looked after

Welcome to the Barking and Dagenham Looked After Children’s Guide. We have produced this guide for children we look after and young people who are leaving care. We’ve done this to set ourselves the highest possible standard for the care we provide.

We hope that the guide will give you a greater understanding of the care system and give you the information you need to make sure you receive a good service.

I hope that your time in care can help you return to your family or to move to a new family as quickly and as safely as possible. This guide should help to reduce any fears that you may have.

I would particularly like to thank the young people of Barking and Dagenham who helped to produce this guide.

Julia Ross

Director of Social Services.
