1. Work in pairs.
Draw up a table like the one started on the right. In the left hand column put the name of the dock; in the right hand column list the commodities which the dock handled.

2. Why do you think docks tended to specialise in particular commodities?
3. What impression of the London Docks do you get from Source A?
4. What information have you gathered from Sources B, C, D, E, F, I and J about the work which went on in the warehouses?
a. Make a list of all the different types of jobs you can find.
b. What other jobs do you think would be carried on in the warehouses? Compare your iist with others in the class.
5. What evidence is there in Sources A to K to suggest that the range of goods imported and the nature of the work in the warehouses changed little in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries?
