Young people we work with

All the young people who have a Mentor from our team are in the care of the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham. These young people may be referred to us via their Social Worker, Carer or School, or may ask for a Mentor themselves.

Many of the young people we work with are from what we term as "Harder to reach" groups of young people aged 11-17.

These groups are all in public care but may also fall into one of the following categories:-

Unaccompanied asylum seekers
Young people who have been excluded from education, employment or training
Young people who are involved with the Youth Offending Team
Young people with low self esteem, poor communication skills who may choose to isolate themselves from the community they live in.

The Mentor would assist the young person to develop their personal identity, skills, knowledge and abilities; supporting them to make their transition into maturity.
