Mentor Agreement

The volunteer mentor makes a commitment to work within the policies and procedures of the scheme, to take responsibility for themselves and their actions, and to ensure that they accurately understand their role and that of their colleagues, and to actively participate in the scheme.

The volunteer mentor agrees to undergo an induction course with the scheme and then:

Volunteer for the scheme for a minimum of 1 year and thereafter as negotiated with the scheme co-ordinator
Be available to volunteer with mentees on a weekly or fortnightly basis
Undertake the necessary ongoing internal training consisting of 2hour sessions on four separate occasions
Attend all sessions agreed with mentees and, where not available, to notify both mentees and the scheme co-ordinator in advance

Attend monthly practice supervisions

Record all work with mentees and forward all such records to the practice supervisor
Treat all mentees and colleagues attached to the scheme with equality and respect
Agree any leave with the scheme co-ordinator in advance when possible
Give 1 month's notice of intention to leave to the scheme co-ordinator.

The Mentoring scheme commits itself to establishing a clear and accessible management structure that provides clarity about tasks, disseminates information promptly about the scheme's work, and maintains a fair way of working with all mentors.

The scheme agrees to:

Ensure that all mentors within in the scheme are covered by the public liability and indemnity insurance policy of the local authority
Ensure that mentors have access to regular supervision that offers initial and ongoing support regarding the mentors' work and personal development
Provide training that gives clear information on ethical and practical matters relevant to the work of the scheme
Work with mentors to identify external training that may be of benefit to the individual for personal and professional development
Inform mentors of any change in circumstances of the scheme, or working practices, or any other matter that is of mutual interest.
