To provide support an assistance to the young people (mentees) of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. To develop their personal identity, skills knowledge and abilities. Enabling them to remain or become re-engaged in education, training or employment during their transitions into maturity.
Volunteers's responsibilities
Volunteers are required to:
- Celebrate and assist the mentee to celebrate their achievements.
- Meet and actively develop a supportive relationship with mentees
- Provide basic information, and guidance about relevant issues. e.g. housing, training and employment, relationships/personal issues, and enable mentees to access appropriate professional support provided by other agencies.
- Ensure that mentees know about additional support available to them and how best to utilise them.
- Give practical help to mentees.
- Provide guidance to mentees on how they can best use the mentoring relationship
- Inform mentees of the boundaries of the relationship
- Make the necessary practical arrangements needed to meet mentees
- Identify and communicate their support needs to their supervisors and make effective use of the support mechanisms provided
- Attend and participate fully in volunteer supervision and training sessions
- Complete paperwork relevant to the mentoring project and make it available as required
Follow relevant policies and procedures as laid down by the project in the delivery of their role
