Out of School Hours Learning

New Opportunities Fund
The Role and Responsibility of the School's NOF Co-ordinator

The NOF Co-ordinator is central to effective planning, monitoring and evaluation of the OoSHL (Study Support) programme. NOF co-ordination should be managed by the Study Support Co-ordinator who may the head teacher, deputy head teacher or co-ordinator responsible for out of school hours learning provision.

Carrying out an audit of non-NOF funded activities
This is a report of those activities that are already taking place in the school, or are planned for that year. These could be funded by other initiatives i.e. Education Business Partnership or the Standards Fund, and could possibly be conducted on a voluntary basis.

Devising a Programme
When devising a programme of out of school hours activities the co-ordinator should be guided by the school's priorities, as identified in the School Development / Improvement Plan, taking into account those activities currently being offered which are not funded from NOF.

Monitoring and Evaluation of Programme

At the beginning of the programme, schools should give 'outcomes for learners' in relation to each activity they are offering. At the end of each year schools will be asked, as part of the monitoring and evaluation process, to indicate how far these have been achieved, in the NOF Annual Report. It is therefore extremely important that systems and procedures are in place to allow a school to meet the monitoring and evaluation requirements.

Use of registers for all sessions
This data is used to monitor the uptake of activities in relation to the number of boys, girls, mixed sessions, together with ethnicity. The information will then be used to produce the annual LEA NOF report.
