A Coherent Pedagogy for Secondary Schools

 

Pedagogy has, at last, acquired the prominence that it should have in our national educational thinking and planning. I am proud to commend this important publication in the hope and expectation that it will promote and support further improvements in the learning and achievement of your students. It shows in detail how schools can make progress.

Continuity of curriculum and pedagogy from primary to secondary schools is now widely recognised as vital for all students, particularly those of below average attainment.

This website shows how the experience and attainment of children in primary schools - which has been transformed over the past decade - can be built upon in secondary classrooms.

It sets out the rationale for a coherent and effective pedagogical framework for secondary schools. It exemplifies in every subject how pedagogical knowledge and understanding can be translated into successful classroom practice.

It draws on the experience of the secondary schools in Barking and Dagenham working in partnership with the Inspection and Advisory Service. I am delighted to be able to recommend this document to all schools.
