Introduction
This website identifies and exemplifies the pedagogical elements which underpin effective teaching in secondary schools.
The aim is to enable teachers and schools to recognise the importance of this phase in pupils' educational experience and to develop a common understanding about what they need to do so that pupils have a consistent and coherent experience as they move from lesson to lesson.
Effective teachers have a clear understanding of what this pedagogy looks like in practice in each subject, rather than simply recognising the surface features.
This website sets out the rationale, explaining why and how the pedagogy works and providing exemplification in every subject.
The approach builds on practices established in Key Stage 2 to ensure pedagogical continuity into Key Stage 3 and beyond.
It provides support for teachers and pupils in learning how to use the pedagogy and to become expert in doing so.
