Putting the principles into practice
What is the impact for all pupils?
- Pupils respect others' responses and are prepared to work collaboratively within the overall ethos of the classroom.
- Pupils gain confidence in their own thought process.
- Pupils gain credibility and affirmation with their peers.
- Pupils can see each other, therefore they can interact directly drawing the class together.
- Pupils speak audibly so that all pupils can hear.
- Pupils use the right register with confidence.
- Pupils pay attention to each other and listen. They are able to respond directly to each other in whole class discussion, building on the contributions of others in the class to develop coherent lines of thinking.
- Pupils have the opportunity to present information and model using a reasonably formal style, extended sentences, speaking confidently to the whole class.
- Pupils are expected to listen to each other, speak up and make their answer clear when necessary.
- Pupils’ answers generate further questions and allow dialogue to develop.
- Pupils experience each episode of the lesson asappropriately challenging which leads to their motivation and engagement.
- Pupils know that learning is difficult but that by overcoming their difficulty they will be successful.
- Pupils understand the pedagogy; the learning process in which they are engaged is transparent. They know why the teacher is doing what they do and what is expected of them.
- Pupils have a clear sense of their learning being broken down into steps which are progressive.
- Pupils have a collective experience, addressing learning tasks together as a group or as a class rather than in isolation.
- All pupils know that they will make progress, gaining confidence in their capacity to learn and raising their self-esteem.
